Joshua J. Zarabi joined the firm in 2011. He represents clients and inventors before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, assisting them in securing patent protection for their inventions. He works primarily with clients who are developing mechanical and electromechanical medical devices and software. He has expertise in all aspects of patent prosecution including conducting prior art and clearance searches, drafting patent applications, and preparing amendments and responses to Office Actions. Mr. Zarabi also prepares freedom to operate/right to use opinions and drafts instruction letters for the firm’s extensive network of foreign counsel responsible for prosecuting counterpart patent applications in Japan, India, China, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and other countries outside the U.S. Since joining Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt, Joshua has helped numerous clients protect their inventions, ideas, and life’s work.

Mr. Zarabi is a team player and works collaboratively with his colleagues to develop strategies to solve complex issues faced by clients. Mr. Zarabi has expertise in advising companies involved in mergers and acquisitions and performing due diligence with respect to patents, pending applications, and commercial products. His analysis helps decision-makers evaluate the risk of an acquisition from an IP perspective and arrive at a valuation for the underlying IP assets. Mr. Zarabi also assists smaller companies and startups in obtaining trademark protection for their brands and logos.
