CARTER, DELUCA, FARRELL & SCHMIDT, LLP PARTNER RAY FARRELL ATTENDS US BAR-JPO COUNCIL MEETING AS INCOMING CHAIR

As the new Chair and outgoing Vice Chair of the US Bar-Japanese Patent Office (JPO) Liaison Council, CDFS Partner Ray Farrell participated in the Council’s annual, meeting with the Commissioner of the JPO held at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle. The US Bar-JPO Liaison Council includes more than 50 delegates representing local, state, and national bar groups across the United States. Ray is one of two delegates appointed by the NYIPLA to represent it on the Council. The Council has been meeting annually with the JPO for 25 years to facilitate an exchange of information on IP law, IP practice, and experiences of U.S. applicants at the JPO. The four primary goals of the Council are:

1) to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information between council delegates and the JPO;

2) to collect and disseminate to the represented bar groups information relating to U.S. applicants seeking IP protection in Japan;

3) to communicate to the JPO observations and experiences of US applicants seeking IP protection in Japan; and

4) to seek from the JPO information regarding its observations and experiences relating to U.S. – origin patent applications.

Congratulations to Ray as he begins his two-year tenure as Chair of the US Bar-JPO Liaison Council! Pictured are the Council delegates with the JPO Commissioner Hitoshi Ito and his International Policy Leadership team.
